Although my focus is mainly moving image, my background and passion have always been arts&crafts. There is always some spatial art floating around my drawing board. This is a selection of my latest work.
1stavemachine produced a new campaign "Fusions" and asked me to do the exploration on the word "Yes" for the endcards. From physical ice types to backlights to building a big inflatable YES, it was a great opportunity to play with different materials and concepts. How nice it is when a commercial job becomes a big experiment and research.
Youtube created a channel called Fieldday. In this channel they invited Youtube creators to explore a concept and create a film with a limited budget. Andrew Huang, Mistery Guitar Man, Vicent Peone, Amymarie Gaertner, V-Sauce, Bob Partington were amongst the participants, together with many others. They comissioned me to create the logo and the font to make all the cards and some graphics for merchandising. You can check the channel here.
1stavemachine took over Pitch Magazine in London for this issue and we developed the content around the concept "Make Love Bombs". Around this idea i did this photo shoot experimenting with high speed photography and exploding ballons with all sort of things inside. The series made it to the editorial of the magazine.

Martin Allais is a mixed-media director, animator and illustrator whose life swings between Brooklyn and Barcelona. His early visual work in the Sonar Festival for live performances of Kid Koala, LCD Soundsystem, De la Soul, Madlib, Dj Rocc, Diplo among others, started his moving image career and a life-long relationship with music. His music videos & commercials are regularly featured in Vimeo Staff Picks, AICP, Cannes, Klik animation festival, SXSW, and Sundance to name a few.
Martin has directed commercials for brands like Oreo, Facebook, Samsung, and Dr. Pepper and is part of the director roster at 1stAveMachine, an international production house with offices in LA, NY & London, recognized as standout production company of 2015 by Creativity, among other awards. Here he co-directed a project for Samsung that won a Bronze Lion Award at Cannes.
His most recent project, co-directing a three-part, animated, coming of age VR experience set amidst New York City’s raging punk scene in the 70’s is narrated by Rosario Dawson and premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. The first installment of ‘Battlescar’ -now showing at the Tribeca Film Festival and next in La biennale de Venezia - garnered raving reviews.
